Miss Sonja Murphy BSc MSC

Miss Sonja Murphy BSc MSC

Physiotherapist;

I graduated from Murray State University, Kentucky, USA with a BSc in Exercise Science/Pre-Physical Therapy, minoring in Physical Education in 2014. At Murray State I played soccer in the NCAA Division 1 Ohio Valley Conference, balancing the demands of being a scholarship student athlete with my academic studies. After my undergraduate studies I coached soccer with UK International across the USA before continuing my education with a MSc in Physiotherapy from Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh, Scotland. I have played sports since a young age, being involved in Gaelic football, camogie, basketball, athletics, badminton, soccer, and any sport that I could try in my local community in Ireland. My experience playing elite soccer in the United States and Ireland has taught me the importance of dedication, hard work and teamwork. I bring all of these qualities to my career in physiotherapy, and I have a strong appreciation for helping others to achieve their goals following an injury. Coming from personal experience of undergoing knee surgery to repair a meniscus tear during soccer preseason training, I understand the psychological and physical impacts of injury recovery, rehabilitation, and prevention. My goal as a physiotherapist is to help my clients reach their full potential and live stronger, healthier lives through injury prevention, management, and performance advancement. Having completed my APPI Level 2 Matwork, I am interested in the role Pilates can have in optimising body movements to prevent future injury and pain. My clinical experience is in private practice, aged care, and with various sporting teams including the professional football club, Hearts of Midlothian in Edinburgh as part of their Academy Program. I have post graduate training in sports and kinesiology taping, as well as obtaining my Diploma in Sports Massage ITEC Level 3. Outside of physiotherapy I enjoy playing Gaelic Football and Camogie with Craobh Phadraigh GAA club, hiking, camping, and enjoying the Australian outdoors lifestyle. View details »
