Podiatrist

Karen's role at PDC Health Hub is a Senior Podiatrist. With nearly 30 years of experience in varied clinical settings. Karen graduated from Curtin University in 1994 with a Bachelor of Science in Podiatry.¿Her interest in Podiatry has developed from experiencing the benefits of wearing orthotics as a child and fascinated by the biomechanics of the lower limb function. Since graduating and working in many clinical environments, Podiatry has proven to involve many more aspects of foot health.¿PDC Health hub is an exciting team to be a part of as the Podiatry service includes all general podiatry care including biomechanics, nail surgery and soft tissue pain as well as offering a comprehensive diabetic foot assessment and education service. ¿Karen has worked in private practice, aged care, disability services and professional development for the Podiatry Association of WA. ¿With hobbies including pilates, tennis and travelling  she also balances work and life with her family of  three busy teenagers. Serena is an Accredited Practicing Dietitian who holds a Bachelor of Nutrition Bioscience and Master of Nutrition and Dietetics from Edith Cowan University. Serena is an Accredited Practicing Dietitian who holds a Bachelor of Nutrition Bioscience and Master of Nutrition and Dietetics from Edith Cowan University. Pursuing a career as a dietitian was driven by her passion for empowering others with the evidence-based knowledge and resources needed to optimise own health and wellbeing. Serena enjoys working collaboratively with people from all walks of life to find innovative ways to reach their nutrition goals. Having lived with type 1 diabetes for 22 years, Serena understands firsthand the vital role food can play in enhancing health and quality of life when living with a chronic illness. She also believes that any dietary changes should be enjoyable and sustainable long term, recognising that there are many approaches that work when it comes to optimising health through nutrition. Serena’s areas of interest include diabetes (T1, T2, gestational), heart health, mental health, vegetarian/vegan diets, and healthy aging. Nurse Practitioner/Credentialled Diabetes Educator

Maxine is a Registered Endorsed Nurse Practitioner and Credentialled Diabetes Educator with over 29 years’ experience in diabetes education and management. Maxine has worked in a vast environment from paediatrics to adult diabetes. Maxine has previously been involved with being: Manager of a Paediatric Diabetes Unit in Switzerland. Diabetes Educator at Fremantle - Tertiary Hospital The Co-ordinator of the Rockingham Endocrinology & Diabetes Service based at Rockingham General Hospital Member of the Australian Diabetes Educator Association (ADEA) since 2003 and a member of the Credentialling Committee of ADEA Currently Maxine is not only part of the team at PDC Health Hub, Maxine also provides private diabetes education services in Waikiki at Waikiki Diabetes Private Nurse Practitioner Service. Maxine joined the team at PDC Health Hub in 2020 to expand the services provided by PDC Health Hub to better assist people living with diabetes by providing a Diabetes in Pregnancy Service. Maxine works collaboratively with Caitlin Parker (Accredited Practising Dietitian and Credentialled Diabetes Educator) and Rachel Boen (Accredited Practising Dietitian) to provide a wholistic approach to Diabetes in Pregnancy. Maxine has also authored many abstracts and articles in various journals with a wide variety of topics and provided multiple Presentations for various Pharma Companies on a wide range of topics. Maxine has also been presented with awards such as: Queens Guide 1970 - Duke of Edinburgh Humanitarian award in 1971 - Abbott Inaugural service innovation award 2007 - Multiple case study awards - ADEA recognition award in 2013 - Director Generals WA Health Award in 2013 - Diabetes Australia health professional of the year award 2015. Maxine’s main diabetes interests are predominantly with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus since. Maxine is a Certified Insulin Pump Trainer for all available insulin pumps in Australia and all Continuous Glucose Monitors (CGM). Since 2002, Maxine has worked with people living with Diabetes in Pregnancy (including Gestational diabetes and Type 1 Diabetes and Pregnancy). Maxine is a proud grandmother and her interests outside of her professional career include her time with her grandchildren, travel, and continuing to learn more about technologies for diabetes.
